currently monkeypox vaccines are only being offered to gay men and trans women (at least in my area) but i urge you to take advantage if you qualify, particularly if you have regular close contact with many people (i.e. work in service industry, take public transit, etc).

monkeypox is NOT just an STI. so even if you’re not hooking up, you can still get it from proximity. take advantage of the vaccines!

As far as I can tell, the reason why so many of the known cases are in gay men is because people were gathering together and hooking up at Pride events in June, and the incubation period is 1 to 3 weeks. Guys who are on PREP or who are getting regularly STI tested are much more likely to report a weird rash they developed after a sexual encounter. But it's not necessarily spread through sex and there's absolutely no reason why the spread should confine itself to gay men.
