discussion about the term “transsexual” (if ur cis this one aint for u)

couple of my newer trans buddies like the term transsexual to emphasize the “fuck you i’m not minimizing my transness or making it more palatable to you” i also kinda enjoy it, particularly in response to rich white trans folks who are overusing terms like “afab or amab” or “fem/masc” to create binaries within nonbinary trans folks’ presentation/gender

thots???????

@bee i'm not a fan for myself, and iirc there's some dodgy medical history behind the term as it was originally conceived... but as a reclaimed thing, sure?

@dumpsterqueer it’s very much used as a reclaimed term, not arguing as it being used to describe trans folks other than themselves

@bee i do like the idea of not minimizing my transness :P

@bee i honesty have always been indifferent to it even after realizing i was trans and never really understood why a lot of people don’t like it. i guess i would probably never use it for myself bc i don’t really like the “sexual” part being in there bc my gender has nothing to do with my sexuality (maybe that’s why ppl don’t like it?idk) but i think it’s cool when people call themselves whatever they want

@bee i am kinda leaning away from calling myself transmasc and am more in favor of calling myself trans and nonbinary and a dude lol. idk i can’t really find words that really feel right to explain my gender but i also don’t really have any desire to if that makes sense? either ppl get it or they don’t, and they are either cool with it or they aren’t. i’m too poor with words to keep trying to prove what my gender is to others

@bee wait i’m still thinking about this and now i’m thinking maybe it’s referring to a persons sex i feel like a goob lol. but tbh i have a hard time parsing gender and sex at least for me personally and it feels eh referring to body parts in relation to gender (again, for me personally)

anyway i still have no strong feelings for or against but i think it’s cool for people to reclaim stuff

@bee i always thought transsexual referred to sex change and that transgender is inclusive of people who havent medically transitioned. but also im baby enby so i dont know much

@umalkosh mm i’ve sorta heard stuff similar to this? the ways i’ve heard it referenced tho is self-identifying, not identifying a community. almost all the ppl i’ve seen reclaiming it have been 27+, so i do think it’s a trans elder phenomena

@bee it is fun to make cis people squirm a lil bit imo
