uncomfortable and frightening truths about covid

yknow what’s wild?

the dissonance between the messaging i got from local gov around covid and the messaging i get internally from my coworkers, healthcare professionals.

yknow what our chief of medical said yesterday in a company-wide call?

“take time to mourn the life you had before covid. there will not be a ‘post-covid’ normalcy. this is our normal.”

uncomfortable and frightening truths about covid

like shit, i wish our gov functioned as anything but the mouthpiece and enforcer of capitalism so people actually understood that covid is not going to just be “over” after a certain number of months.

this is unprecedented, global, and right now is more dangerous than three months ago was.

but messaging about safety and public health isn’t dictated by science. it’s dictated by money.

if you can, stay home, stay safe y’all.

@bee i've been getting increasingly suspicious of any sort of "official" messaging that seems to be peppered with a particular flavor of optimism, the one that assures you that everything is under control and we'll get this sorted out real soon, so just sit tight and don't worry.

i've always been extremely distrustful of Official Word, and this doesn't make it any better. what's not being said in those messages is very telling.

@rabbithearth Oh, for sure. And the proof is in the pudding, so to speak.

Big Pharma just bought up 90% of the world's supply of the drug that's been shown to be most effective at treating people with the coronavirus.

Hospitals that ordered masks due to not having enough provided to them by the federal government have been raided by those same feds and the masks confiscated.

@bee They tried to make that very clear here in New Zealand!

Even if it's more "over" for us than pretty much anyone else...

@alcinnz i’m not surprised, new zealand is doing an incredible job being transparent and responsive, unlike certain countries *coughcoughUSA*
